Israel legalises death penalty for Palestinians convicted of murdering Israelis

The State Department said it had formally reopened its embassy in Caracas after seven years. The US seized President Nicolas Maduro in a military raid in January and has since reestablished diplomatic ties.

Israeli lawmakers have voted in favor of reinstating the death penalty for Palestinians convicted of murdering Israelis. The law, pushed by the far-right, is expected to be challenged in Israel's Supreme Court.

Israeli authorities said they were containing a large fire at an oil refinery in Haifa after it was hit by debris.
